Chakasa village in Tana River are demanding justice after wildlife rangers shot and killed an unarmed man in his home over a long ranging border dispute.

Mr Isack Jarso Delo was shot and killed in his manyatta by overzealous Kenya Wildlife Service rangers who had ordered him to move from disputed Tsavo East borders.

A team of KWS officers that operates from Tiandaza KWS within Tsavo East National Park raided chakasa Village and ordered the man to move his family, claiming they were within the park borders.

Locals say the man refused to let them into his home and the officers opened fire on him in front of his family.

The matter was reported at Kone police who were involved bring the KWS officer to account.

 “They were claiming that they didn't want to see any settlement at that point because they were saying it's within the park. Whereas, the community has been living there all those decades,” the source said.

“As a result, they shoot one middle-aged man called Mr Isack Jarso Delo, leaving him with serious injury, which later, after some few hours, succumbed to death as a result of bleeding,” the source said.

Violence by the Kenyan state officials on local populations show that its more official policy than bad apples.

The incident comes amid public outrage over police killings and abductions by state officers.

While the police bureaucracy has tried to distance the force from the extrajudicial violence, President William Ruto publicly admitted to the abductions, some of which have turned fatal.

This is indicative a state that has violent policies on its own citizens.
