It is not so often that a school gets to sue its own parents and charge them legal fees over and above tuition, but Makini school is embroiled in such a case.
The school’s parents Parents Teachers Association (PTA)have been slapped with legal fees over a defamation case pitting Makini against the parent leadership.
Mr Nixon Bugo, the PTA chair in a bid to push out management had sensationally claimed the school head, smokes at the premises and carries a gun in school resulting in a defamation suit.

Court documents reveal that Bugo has convened virtual meetings where he encouraged attendees to take radical actions against the school. Bugo further exacerbated the situation by politicizing management decisions and harassing long-serving staff.
A background check could have helped Makini Parents learn something sinister about their chairman, who has a history of using his position to procure favours then rushing to court to seek protection.
Mr Bugo lost his employment as the Head of Banking and Innovative Finance at Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa(AGRA) after he allegedly tried to force a contractor to hire a relation into the board in exchange for a tender. Court documents show that a whistleblower sounded the alarm, revealing Mr Bugo had leaked the tender documents to select Technical Service Providers (TSPs), raising eyebrows about potential favoritism

Troublingly, Bugo was accused of not disclosing his connection with one of the bidders, who at the time worked for CRAH (Comprehensive Risk Assessment Holdings) to the Technical Evaluation Panel, a clear violation of ethical standards.
Court documents further reveal that Bugo had allegedly solicited favors from the bidder reportedly demanding that CRAH bribes him by including his sister and cousin on its board of directors before the company could win the bid.
When AGRA, taking these allegations seriously, engaged KPMG to investigate the claims against Bugo, he attempted to obtain an injunction against his employer to halt the forensic investigation.
This was an apparent effort to shield himself from a forensic examination by KPMG and evade accountability.
But even after he lost his application for injunctions, Mr Bugo sought more layers of litigations to shield himself from the disciplinary action all to no avail.
He eventually abandoned the case, leaving lingering questions about his conduct unanswered.
Makini Schools should have sought out Mr Bugo's history and appreciated the troubling pattern –marked by ethical breaches, and disregard for accountability. Now the school has to contend with the same being repeated at Makini where he is accused of making false accusations on several occasions to bully the school into letting him have his way.
