Firebrand politician, Miguna Miguna, Agostino Neto, Roselyn Akombe and Obure John chose Kisumu’s Obunga, the bedrock of Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic movement-ODM support, to launch hunt for members of United Green Movement (UGM).

The politicians hosted a football match between Obunga FC and Kolwa FC mobilizing support for what they termed the ‘Lolwe Movement’ in reference to the luo name for Lake Victoria.

In Kenya political parties are dominated by their principals and usually die out with their careers. As ODM attempts a huge task of replacing Mr Odinga the chances for a fallout at the party is attracting attention.

ODM has dominated Nyanza and Western Kenya politics under Raila Odinga, but the party could lose its strongholds to internal wrangling and emerging factions as they seek to change party stewardship.

The emerging camps in ODM led by former governors Wycliffe Oparanya and Hassan Joho has meant that no Luo politician is in line to inherit Mr Odinga which may see the party lose its stranglehold over Luo Nyanza.

Goalless draw

ODM however retains strong ground support and boosted by Raila Odinga recent popularizing tour ahead of party elections that were postponed due to recent flooding.

At Obunga, it was more of the football passion that played out as the event organized around talent exhibition for football and music album launches by Kisumu’s Fusion sensation Apesi and upcoming artists, Omondi Wuod Ombeyi and Stevo Janam.

Obunga FC played out a draw with Kolwa who were branded in Kisumu Senator Prof. Tom Ojienda jerseys. Prof Ojienda is part of the ODM rebels, a faction within the party that have more or less defected to President William Ruto’s government.

The evenly matched sides played the ball end to end attracting huge crowds from Obunga who showed up for the home team despite the game playing out just before Arsenal settled the Old Trafford rivalry by beating Manchester United.

The game was settled on contentious post match penalties with Obunga missing two kicks to lose out to their opponents.

In the disappointment and loss Miguna Miguna rose to the occasion to remind Obunga that he dared to give Mr. Raila Odinga power of which he was robbed and only for him, Miguna to face betrayal.

Holding up a revolutionary viva fist, he promised that he will bring power with his new ‘Lolwe Movement’s unstoppable march.
