This Valentines; the wild within

February 11, 2024

Kisumu city starts and ends in nature.

Backed up by the lake, the city extends from the papyrus at Dunga, plush greenery of Milimani into the central business district.

Here street photography is easier, you do not have to literally look over your shoulders for Kanjo- the dreaded Nairobi City county enforcers.

Looking over my shoulder.

Everything seems to fall in its rightful place

When we went for the wild within we were looking for colourful locations where nature sprouts within concrete.

A silent and serene road winding behind the City's Huduma center proved irresistible.

Occasionally, we shared the road with driving school vehicles whose learners were not looking for a picturesque setting but a deserted road for which to practice breaking.

The early morning light filtered through the branches giving as the 'sun-kissed' effect and brought out the bold colors very strongly.

Even with minimal lighting we were able to pull in very neat cuts with natural light, just before it started becoming unbearably hot.

Kisumu does not need you to go very far for great outdoor shoots, the city provides in abundance, the wild within.

From well kept and maintained streets, ancient washed out buildings, estates that flourish between homesteads and urbanity and the breadth of the lake.
